Gelu Cazacioc, patronul unui incinerator de animale din comuna Smârdan, județul Tulcea, a fost reținut pentru 24 de ore de procurorii de la Parchetul de pe lângă Curtea de Apel Constanța, sub acuzația de furt de curent.
Motivul reținerii este faptul că a fost prins pe 12 martie 2021 în flagrant în timp ce fura curent și își instalase un transformator la incinerator. În octombrie 2019, ENEL Constanța i-a întrerupt alimentarea cu energie electrică, după ce l-a prins făcând același lucru. În sprijinul său a sărit chiar Garda de Mediu Tulcea, care le-a spus celor de la ENEL că este un obiectiv de interes național. Cazul a fost prezentat în media pe 4 martie. Înainte, presa locală arătase cum Cazacioc îngropase cantități uriașe de leșuri lângă incinerator. Cazacioc afirmase că el face îngrășământ, „dacă arzi materia, o pierzi. Dacă o ţii, se transformă în materie organică, în îngrăşământ. Ia analize din el şi vezi dacă e pământ. Vezi ce conţine! Eu zic că e compost. Ei zic că este pământ”.
N-ar fi primul dosar penal pentru Cazacioc, acesta fiind acuzat că în loc să incinereze oile de pe nava Queen Hind eşuată în 2019, în Portul Midia, a îngropat cadavrele acestora pe un teren viran care nu-i aparținea, din apropierea comunei Smârdan, judeţul Tulcea.
Pentru serviciile de dezeşuare şi ranfluare a navei Queen Hind, scoatere şi neutralizare a încărcăturii din interior, Compania Naţională Administraţia Porturilor Maritime SA Constanţa semnase pe 14 ianuarie 2020, cu Grup Servicii Petroliere, companie ce-i aparține lui Gabriel Comănescu, un contract de 4 milioane de euro, echivalent în lei.
Subcontractor al acestui contract era Cazacioc Gelu, care prin firma sa, Cazacioc & CO SRL, urma să se ocupe de incinerarea cadavrelor. Pentru această operaţiune, care nu a mai avut loc, Cazacioc & CO SRL a primit 1,5 milioane de euro.
